Alchemist The Sail
The design for Alchemist at The Sail draws inspiration from the deep blue hues of the sea. At the entrance, a thick stone-like portal forms a cavernous threshold, compressing the entry and heightening the reveal as the space opens into the main cafe space with an interior lined in cool blue surfaces and stainless-steel planes. The coffee counter anchors the space, wrapped in brushed steel like a floating laboratory bench, while lush planters flank both sides, dissolving the boundary between retail, bar, and landscape. The stainless steel shelving threads through greenery, integrating the coffee bags and products into part of the scenery. The surfaces are finished in materials of varying shades of blue, from glazed and matt tiles, recycled textile boards, to the textured plaster, creating a composition of tonal variation and textural contrast that shifts with light. A skylight-like ceiling bathes the space in a diffused glow, softening the cool blue and metallic palette, evoking the calm of a hidden sanctuary built for a moment of pause in the city.
